White Bear Lake Pianist Delivers “Suite” Release
By Jane Fredericks / Press Publications
No doubt about it, music has been a sweet career for Bradley Joseph. The White Bear Lake pianist has performed for over 500,000 people throughout the world, worked alongside New Age megastar Yanni and ‘80s pop singer Sheena Easton. He’s issued 12 solo CDs and a series of best-selling DVDs. Last month, he released his latest CD, Suites & Sweets.
“Suites are a series of classical movements,” said Joseph.
“Sweets – something gratifying and delightful…it’s kind of a play on words.”
The new CD features compositions by Beethoven, Mozart, Bach and others. I took the best parts and movements out of those classical songs…and made it soft and calm all the way through, said the 44-year-old pianist. Kind of the same thing chocolate does – it gives you a little relief.
He worked with guitarist Dugan McNeill, a former band mate of Yanni in the Twin Cities rock group Chameleon. McNeill told Joseph that Yanni – who had become a New Age performer – was looking for a new piano player. Joseph recorded a demo tape, sent it out and Yanni immediately hired him. Joseph’s first performance with the New Age artist was before 20,000 people in Texas. It was a big jump, said Joseph. You don’t really realize it at the time, but there’s no in between – going from playing nightclubs to arenas.
He toured with Yanni from 1990-1995 (and during a later tour in 2003), playing Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl and the Live at the Acropolis concert. Eventually, he said, I needed to branch out. After recording one album for Narada Records, Joseph started his own company – Robbins Island Music – in 1998. He credits the internet as a powerful tool for musicians. You have more freedom, can profit more, can put things out faster and can go directly to your fans…it just makes a lot of sense.
